Job Description:

Manulife Business Processing Services (MBPS) is a global resourcing organization for Manulife Financial, a leading multinational financial services company headquartered in Canada, operating as John Hancock in the United States and as Manulife in the rest of the world. The MBPS Actuarial department provides actuarial services to Manulife business areas across Asia and North America, specializing in model validation, experience studies and valuation work.  In addition to providing exciting work in the actuarial field, our Actuarial Development Program also offers strong support and incentives for writing Society of Actuaries (SoA) exams, as well as the opportunity to rotate periodically into new roles to gain a broader knowledge and experience base. We are currently searching for talented and motivated individuals with prior actuarial experience, to help our team grow. The desired qualifications and anticipated job responsibilities are listed below.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics
  • Strong knowledgeable in various actuarial concepts and their application to life insurance – probability, interest theory, life contingencies.
  • Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts clearly and concisely both orally and in writing to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; good team player. 
  • Can perform tasks with minimal supervision and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge in database software (SQL, SAS, etc.) and Microsoft Excel.  Knowledge of VBA macros and actuarial modeling software (e.g. GGY Axis) is preferred but not required.
  • Driven to attain designation in any recognized actuarial organization (e.g. SOA, ASP).  Has passed two (2) SOA preliminary exams.

Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will have responsibilities related to one or more of the following:

Experience Analytics and Monitoring Development:

  • Develop attributes and modules for new experience studies and experience monitoring
  • Perform experience analytics on observable experiences, e.g. grouping, breaking down and analyzing the data to support the experience studies
  • Perform data quality control measures to ensure that data is consistent, reliable and appropriate for the purpose of the study and monitoring
  • Ensure the analytics are conducted according to GFA requirements set out in Corporate Pricing Standard, Corporate Valuation Standard and applicable guidelines to experience studies
  • Document the data process and methodology undertaken

Ongoing Experience Monitoring and Inforce Management:

  • Perform and report the monitored experience periodically

Audit and Regulatory Support:

  • Maintaining documentation and evidence of controls upon requests
  • Support all related inquiries including but not limited to additional analysis upon requests

Other Support:

  • Provide ad hoc information to internal and external stakeholders upon request
  • Ensure that changes to the calculations and software program meet appropriate approvals and change management requirements.
  • Implementation of performances and tracking and Client feedback mechanism upon completion of each project.
