About McKinsey & Company

McKinsey & Company is a global management consulting firm. They are the trusted advisor to the world's leading businesses, governments, and institutions.

Your role & responsibilities

  • Junior Associates receive exceptional training as well as frequent coaching and mentoring from colleagues on their teams.  This support includes a Partner from your local office or practice assigned to you to help guide your career as well as up to five weeks of formal training in your first few years. Additionally, you’ll receive guidance and support from your local office or practice in the selection of client projects, helping you to develop your skills and build your network.

Training & development

Mckinsey invests more than $200 million to train their people. Their consultants attend at least five weeks of formal programming in their first two years, starting with EMBARK, their basic consulting training, plus advanced sessions on team management and client leadership.

In addition to formal and in-person training, they have an extensive e-learning on-demand curriculum and office- and practice-based learning options.

McKinsey believes in strengths-based development and coaching, and you’ll receive frequent mentoring from colleagues. This will include a senior colleague from your office or practice who will help you grow and achieve your career goals. Additionally, you will have a professional development manager who manages to staff to help you choose projects based on your priorities as well as the needs of client service teams.

Work-life balance

Mckinsey found the challenge of achieving work-life balance is often exacerbated by gender stereotypes, which are often avoided by same-gender DCCs. Drawing on qualitative interviews and data collected for Women in the Workplace, a 2021 report published in partnership with LeanIn.Org, they found that same-gender DCCs tend to manage household responsibilities using a range of strategies that allow for greater flexibility. These include:

  • Doing tasks each partner minds less.
  • Focusing on natural skills and inclinations to determine responsibilities.
  • Allocating tasks based on available time and flexibility.
  • Responding dynamically to changes affecting work and home life.

Company culture

Their holistic, rigorous approach delivers business value by building cultures of continuous improvement and shaping successful change programs. Deep expertise, data analytics, and a proven framework help leaders more than double their odds of delivering successful change at scale. They set clear goals and determine how the organization can achieve them. They tap organizational networks to drive progress, and they make changes personally shifting mindsets and motivating new behaviors at the individual level. The result is a more future-proofed organization with a culture that can sustain superior performance.
